Apple’s iPad Angle

Posted February 2nd, 2010 in Blog by Trevino

Has Apple really learned a thing or two from someone else?

The iPhone is hands down the best phone /smart phone experience out there. However I gave it up for my Blackberry bold.

Ok, the Bold is quite a good looking phone with some impressive specs, but really falls short of the standard the iPhone has created. But why did i change? And why are many thousands also following suit?

You see in South Africa, all blackberries come with free on device internet access, & email. Not to mention msn chat, and navigation maps at no extra internet cost for data usage. Thats it!

Because of the this amazing saving on the pocket, we have chosen to give up the best phone in the world and live witih the Bold’s shortcommings.

It all boils down to the pocket.

In all honesty though, we gotta give the Blackberry an out right win over the iPhone in the area of email. It comes to you like and sms. On the iPhone you gotta log on and check mail, much like the old pc way. I have read gmail now has push email, but it still does not match the simplicity and ease of use the way blackberry handles its email.

Now the iPhone requires and expensive 3g contract to have internet access on it, and since it uses the 3g radio, its battery life lasts just longer than the flavour in your buble gum.

All that and you still pay! Even if you just pull up a map to find the quickest way out a crime ridden area.

With iPads awesome battery life and data plan, which does not cost an arm and a leg, i think the iPad, even though not refined enough will soon become king of the road. We will live with its short commings, just because we can be connected to the net all day, with unlimited data.

Kudo to Apple there. they actualy did something else right. They realized that, the allure of their product is not only what consumers want. We want it on the net and at a price the pocket will still keep its shape.

Only one other thing, Apple still has not gotton the full message. Its high price! will it come to Africa? After all SA is amonst the largest 3g internet users in the world.

In SA the device could have a starting price of R5000 and that is being optimistic. Will you really pass the chance to purchase a full blown 15 inch laptop, for just less than that?

Its a bluff Apple is playing.. Let’s call it!

One Response so far.
